Beware the Careless

I hate to break this to you all, but there are terribly careless people among us. They appear quite normal on the outside. They may even appear extraordinary, like angels of light and laughter. And yet they thrive on the pain of others. The more they laugh, the surer we can be that the greater cruelty has been accomplished. And so beware. There is one defense only, and that is to become like them. For, you see, they feed on good hearts, and will surely devour the bearer thereof. Therefore hide you heart, and partake of the same blood, and do it in their sight, if you want to live in this world. Though they are weak and pitiful creatures, they will not learn nor grow. They cannot be healed by medicine. They cannot be healed by love. In vain even has the son of man died, for these blind and deaf will never see nor hear.
