Inkarnasi (The Incarnations)

Funny how you can read one or two paragraphs of a novel and know whether it is going to be worthwhile or not. I knew straight away that Inkarnasi, by Susan Barker, was going to be a huge cut above most of what one sees in "literature" these days. It's a bit reminiscent of Murakami in its smooth blend of the common and the extraordinary in the fabric of life, examining on the one hand a man's everyday life and on the other the immense sweep of Chinese history. Looking forward to living with this rather large book for some time to come.
