The Ninety Nine and the One

What think ye? If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, does he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
--Matthew 8:12

It has been a long time, it feels like ages, but at last I am actually feeling proud again to be an American. I am feeling proud of America and Americans. An injustice has occurred, an injustice within a history of injustices, and the people, the multitude of decent people, came out to the streets to shout "No! No more!" Despite the risks, despite the call of personal comfort, despite the urgings of apathy, despite the danger of Covid-19, despite the prudence of self-preservation, despite the same dangers faced by victims who had inspired action through violent death itself, they came out. They did the right thing. Because it matters. Because morality matters. The ninety and nine came out for the one.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
John-15:13
