The Wisdom of Youth

In yet another 'debate' with a young Indonesian immigrant to America, we were discussing whether falling asleep at a Wendy's is sufficient reason to shoot a man dead. Well, I doubt that the young woman would characterize the issue in this way, but in any case she sought to inform me ultimately about the particulars of what happens in an arrest. "I'm sorry," I told her, "but you simply don't know what you're talking about. Take it from someone who has been there."

"Aww," the callow woman replied, "you think coz you are old and had a lot of experience and you are wise enough? lol. i don't think so."

Well sure, why should experience matter in these things? Why should actual facts matter? The key response when confronted with knowledge and experience seems to be the tossing of an insult. It's the ace in the hole. 'Ah, so you see, I am right after all, and you are old! Period!' She had spoken and that was that.

Oh dear.
